Washrooms at Aspire Leisure Centre

Despite being set a challenging completion date, Interfix carried out a full refurbishment of poolside changing rooms to help transform a unique leisure centre’s facilities.

The changing areas at Aspire Leisure Centre in Stanmore, Middlesex were in need of an overhaul and additional disabled toilet facilities were required. As experienced providers of sanitary solutions for projects ranging in size and profile, Interfix was selected for the specialist project.

In conjunction with the leisure centre – the first leisure centre in Europe for disabled and non-disabled people – the specification of durable, easy-to-clean materials was imperative. This was essential to upholding strict public health and safety standards, as well as being cost-effective.

In areas of heavy footfall, sanitaryware must retain its long-term look and functionality despite the incumbent rigours. If not, it could lead to financially-challenged local authorities facing expensive and regular repair works. For the 195m2 changing rooms, this adherence to safety detail meant the installation of non-slip floor tiling and hygienic wall cladding.

Other new features included changing cubicle benching, a suspended ceiling, and sensor-controlled Dyson taps to increase the rooms’ energy-efficiency. Drench-head showers replaced the previous domestic system, whilst the size of the changing rooms was increased to enable easier access for people with disabilities.

With the pool closed to the public whilst refurbishment was carried out, Interfix’s skilled installation team was required to complete the project to the client’s strict eight-week deadline to ensure the pool reopened on the agreed date.

The timescale was comfortably met, and the leisure centre now boasts smart, inclusive, user-friendly poolside changing room areas.
