Changing Places at The Oracle Shopping Centre

The Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading sought to provide a Changing Places facility within their complex to allow for people with severe disabilities to have the freedom to participate in a wider range of activities and to further promote disability inclusion. Interfix were commissioned to carry out the project which involved creating an area of 14m2 by utilising some of the ladies cubicles and forming new walls for the space.

The materials used included safety non-slip vinyl floor covering, hygienic wall cladding and all specialist equipment for changing places including a hoist and changing bed to allow carers to easily provide a dignifying experience when helping their caree to use the washroom facilities.

Moreover, Interfix supplied fully compliant materials in order to be recognised by Changing Places Org as a compliant Changing Places facility and to be listed on the Changing Places Toilet Map.

The project had to be delivered during the Shopping Centre’s operating hours and therefore the movement of materials had to be coordinated out of hours to minimise disruption to the general public.

The project was completed within 4 weeks and the client was very satisfied with the results.

With a Changing Places facility now available at the Oracle Shopping Centre, carers of severely disable are able to fully assist people with their WC needs during their visit to the shopping centre which includes a wide range of retail shops, restaurants and even a cinema.
