Washrooms at St Nicholas Shopping Centre

Interfix transformed a shopping centre’s toilets, which were in a poor state of repair due to long-term vandalism, into a smart, modern facility excelling in customer comfort and safety.

The urgent refurbishment took place at St Nicholas Shopping Centre in Sutton, Surrey. Working in a live environment to a strict deadline in order to minimise customer disruption, Interfix’s on-site team faced a huge challenge in meeting the client’s brief to create the ‘best washrooms in the world’ – on a limited budget.

As well as the refurbishment, Interfix was responsible for product specification and quantities as part of its full-service offering. Before installation work on the 185m2 washroom area could begin, all existing fixtures and fittings – including the ceiling, wall and floor coverings – required ripping out. These were replaced with a suspended ceiling; a durable, non-slip floor and easy-clean wall tiling, and full-height rebated cubicles for added privacy. Corian wash troughs, which prevent floor spillages were also installed, along with sensor taps for increased hygiene and economic usage. Push button toilets, ‘luxury’ floating mirrors, hand dryers, baby change units and new entrance doors completed the refurbishment which met the client’s demand for a washroom that looked as exceptional as it functioned.

Despite the project’s complexities and the live environment in which Interfix teams were required to work, the refurbishment was completed within the client’s 10-week deadline. This was achieved thanks to the diligence of engineers working out-of-hours; employing the skills and experience that has helped Interfix gain a valued reputation in the world of washroom refurbishment during the past 30 years.
