Washrooms at St George’s Shopping Centre

The toilet facilities at St George’s Shopping Centre in Harrow, Middlesex, were in need of improvement due to the passing years’ detrimental effect on fixtures, fittings and the surrounding décor. Experts in washroom design and refurbishment, Interfix were selected to supply the centre’s new restroom facilities, working with HFM Architects from drawing-up plans for the new layout, through to product selection, quantity and installation.

The project’s materials were selected for robust as well as aesthetic qualities. Fittings had to demonstrate excellent damage resistance to acts of vandalism and long-term wear and tear caused by large footfall. It led to the specification of corian washtroughs, which are not subject to deterioration and contain an angled ramp to prevent floor splashing.

Alavo units were fitted above, featuring concealed water, soap and dryers to aid hygiene and reduce material waste engendered by paper or hand towel usage. Ceramic tiles applied to walls and floors gave the washroom a smart, uniform appearance as well as offering easy maintenance. For the toilets, Interfix supplied its Velocity cubicle and duct range.

Solid grade laminate and hard wearing, the units are a hardwearing and robust solution, and in other environments, can be used as shower cubicles. To improve the area’s ambience and create a welcoming environment, graphics were applied to walls in certain locations.

The refurbishment took 12 weeks to complete, with work being carried out in a live environment whilst the centre remained open to the public. It meant Interfix installers showing the utmost diligence to ensure the project was completed with minimal risk and disruption to shoppers. It resulted in a refurbished washroom which is everything a sanitary environment should be, and more – durable, clean, safe, welcoming and stylish.
